FAIRVIEW, Tenn. (WTVF) — In a heartbreaking turn of events, a home that was once a beacon of hope — constructed through the efforts of compassionate volunteers —now lies in ruins after a devastating fire.
The flames ignited on the porch of the residence located on Horn Tavern Road and Brandenburg Court in Fairview around 10:30 on Wednesday night.

Witnesses in the neighborhood, speaking off-camera, revealed that when they stepped outside their homes, they were met with the sight —the house engulfed in flames within moments.
The fire is believed to have started on the front porch.
Neighbors said the homeowners had only recently moved into the home, less than six months ago now find themselves grappling with the loss of their home just days before Christmas.
December is a peak month for home fires, a trend attributed to the various activities associated with the holiday season, according to the National Fire Protection Association,
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, fire crews confirm that it was initiated on the front porch.
Despite the devastating outcome, the Fairview Fire Department reports that no injuries were sustained during the fire, as the two people were able to evacuate safely.
As the investigation into the cause of the fire unfolds, the community comes together to support their neighbors.

A development with more than 500 homes in Fairview that’s been discussed and redrawn for years has advanced to a final vote by city leaders.
Neighbors of the Bellehaven site, including Jeffrey Pape, Tamara Hyler and others, are against the proposed development planned for 250 acres along Highway 96.
Pape and Hyler filed a complaint with the city, and the appeal was heard in late April by the Franklin Board of Commissioners, who ultimately on first vote approved Bellehaven.
The approval comes nearly two years after the commission first rejected the plan.
Walton Group is the developer for the project, which is located near Interstate 40. The builder is Texas-based D.R. Horton.
The master plan calls for over 500 residential units, with lots sizes between 55- and 85-feet wide, as well as 20-foot-wide townhome lots. A small pool and cabana are also planned.
Pape and Hyler contend that the project needs to be rezoned and the current plans shouldn’t have made it this far into the process.
“Very simply put, if you change the plan for this particular PUD zoning it changes the official zoning map of the City and is therefore a zoning change,” their appeal states.

They also argue that the master plan presented in March didn’t include all the minimum city requirements.
“Therefore, both the lack of information provided by staff as well as the statements made by staff and legal counsel unduly influenced and restricted the Planning Commission’s discretionary authority to approve exceptions and variations from the zoning ordinance as part of their approval process,” the appeal states.
Their appeal was ultimately deferred on April 20. That same date at its regular monthly meeting, the commission, with two members absent, approved the development on first reading. A public hearing and second reading and possible final vote are expected on May 18.
Fairview City Attorney Patrick Carter strongly recommended that the board approve the plan on first reading, stating it met the city’s zoning codes.
“If the master plan meets the zone of the property, legally, it requires you to approve it,” Cater said. “All I can tell you is what the law is. This has everything to do with the property’s zoning that was put in place in 2008.”
In a late 2021 city Planning Commission meeting, commissioners pushed back against the project’s look and density. At the time 600 homes were planned.
“I'm having a hard time falling in love with it, or kind of seeing the vision,” Planning Commission Chairman Brandon Butler said. “I’m still having a hard time with the lot size or the overall design.”

FAIRVIEW, Tenn. (WKRN) — Tenants at a Fairview apartment complex are dealing with deplorable living conditions. They claim management is doing little solve a rodent infestation that has been going on for months.
Residents at the Roundtree Manor Apartments in Fairview said they’ve been dealing with a rat infestation since May, but little has been done to address their concerns.
News 2 toured one of the units to see the conditions.
Residents showed evidence of chewed towels, appliances and cabinets, mats and rugs with rodent urine as well as droppings throughout living spaces. Other tenants showed News 2 places where mold is beginning to grow.
Residents reached out to management with their concerns, but said there hasn’t been much effort to fix the issues.
“I have a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old; we’ve been dealing with rats,” said Charnequa McNemore, who has lived at the complex for two years.
She said the conditions are now impacting her children’s health.
“They can’t walk around without shoes on in the apartment. We have mold. They’re not doing anything. It’s ridiculous. My kids are staying sick. We have to sleep with the doors boarded up to protect our kids from the rats, but they’re still finding a way to get in,” said McNemore.
News 2 reached out to the manager of the Roundtree Manor apartments, however, staff decided not to comment on the situation. News 2 also reached out to the Atlanta-based real estate owner of the complex, Hallmark Companies, but have not received a response yet.

Tenants said they contacted the health department and codes. They said they were told their messages were received, but they are still waiting for action to be taken.
Until they get responses from management, McNemore said she is left to spend her own money until a solution is found.
“They’re not fixing anything, like nothing. It’s always, ‘We have to come out of pocket.'”

On first possession, the Jackets were forced to punt. However, the Indians fumbled the ball and Fairview’s #21 Travon Murry recovered the ball to put the Jackets in good field position. Fairview kick Beckham Adams’ extra point kick was good, putting Fairview up 7-0.
The Indians were quick to strike when #9 Bo Bowers ran the kickoff back for a Montgomery Central touchdown to tie up the game 7-7.
Fairview failed to secure a first down on their next possession and a short punt gave the Indians solid field position which they used to score their second touchdown and first lead in the game.
Unable to gain yardage, the Jackets’ punt went deep as the first quarter ended. At the start of second quarter, the Indians met r esistance from a tough Jacket defense. Big tackles from Wendell Billingsley and Tristan Roberts forced the Indians to punt.
A penalty and bad snap was recovered by Fairview’s #21 Travon Murry who ran the ball to the 22-yard line. Murry followed up with two big gains before reaching the end zone on his third carry. Adams’ point after was good, making it a tie score 14-14.
The Jacket defense forced the Indians to turn possession over on downs with only a minute left in the half. A short march down field and time running out, Jax McCoy connected on a 12-yard pass to Billingsley in the end zone with seven seconds remaining in the half. Extra point was good, giving Fairview a 21-14 lead at half time.
Returning to play, the Indians #12 Anthony Holland intercepted a Fairview pass, but they could not generates a score from the turnover, punting to Fairview. The battle raged on in the third quarter.
With four minutes left in the third quarter, Fairview’s #7 Lincoln Kelley rushed 7 yards for the touchdown with extra point good. Fairview was up 28-14.
Moving into the fourth quarter, the two teams seemed matched. The teams punted back and forth until late in the fourth quarter when Mccoy threw a 29-yard pass to #2 Wendell Billingsley for a Jacket touchdown. The score pushed the Jacket lead to 34-14.
After Montgomery Central’s #11 Kanyon Conner blocked a kick, the Indians found themselves on their own 5-yard line with a lot of field in front of them. They moved down field allowing the Indians’ #3 Jackson Mullins to complete a five-yard pass to #12 Anthony Holland for a touchdown. However, it was not enough as the clock ran out, giving Fairview the victory.
The Jackets travel to Independence October 6 and host Sycamore on October 20.
The Jackets and Indians battled through most of the first half. In the final minute of the second quarter, Fairview scored their third touchdown to go into halftime ahead 21-14.

FAIRVIEW, Tenn. (WZTV) — It's a nightmare for some living in a Middle Tennessee apartment complex. Residents said they've been dealing with a rat infestation since early spring.
Charity Taylor was in tears when FOX 17 News sat down to speak with her. She lives at Roundtree Manor Apartments in Fairview with her daughter and son, and she said she's at her breaking point.
Taylor and her daughter say they clean regularly, and the next day rats come back.
A few months ago, the family saw a rat and noticed holes under her kitchen sink. Taylor put a bucket with grease in it to catch the rodents, thinking she wouldn't find anything.
“I caught 31 rats in a bucket under my kitchen sink. Within a matter of two days,” Taylor said.
“Nobody's doing anything about it. It's got to the point where you can’t sleep peacefully without hearing noises and scratches in the wall. And it's just it's a nightmare at this point.”
Taylor said she has tried to get help from the apartment complex, showing them the pictures and the only response, she got is "I’m sorry" and some rat traps in hand.
“You can't even enjoy it here because of the rats; the smells,” she said.
An advocate working with renters at the complex said another family with small children is also facing this issue.
That family is not ready to speak with FOX 17 News. Reporter Payton Muse went to the management office. The manager said she was "advised to say no comment."
Muse asked when these problems are going to be addressed.
The complex said they’re in the process of "doing everything" and they’re hoping things will be resolved by the end of next week.
Another problem Taylor’s family said they’re dealing with is no hot water. Taylor said maintenance came Thursday and it is still broken.
